Traditionally the analysis of plastics and polymers by mass spectrometry has involved the use of GC-MS or LC-MS. In either technique the whole sample or the surface is required to be dissolved with an appropriate solvent. Using ASAP® or AP-MALDI, these samples can now be analysed intact. As ambient surface ionisation techniques, ASAP® and AP-MALDI can give accurate information about plastics, additives and surface treatments without the need for sample preparation.
