Mass Spectrometers

Atmospheric-Pressure MALDI

The Atmospheric-Pressure Matrix-Assisted Laser-Desorption Ionisation (AP-MALDI) source enables mass spectrometers fitted with an electrospray or nanospray source to have the additional capability of MALDI. It is called AP-MALDI because, unlike vacuum MALDI, ionisation takes place under atmospheric conditions. This provides several important advantages including convenience, speed of analysis, simplicity of operation and cost.

New for 2007! - Existing AP-MALDI users can now upgrade existing nitrogen lasers to the new Nd-YAG laser -see below for more details

Features

O

Change between MALDI and ESI/nanospray in minutes. Calibrate in ESI and switch to MALDI without recalibration. Sample plates loaded in seconds as there is no waiting for vacuum to be achieved.

O

MS-MS and MSn data (If instrumental capabilities permit) from a MALDI source for enhanced sequencing information at a fraction of the cost of a TOFTOF instrument.

O

Superior performance, simpler operation and more reliable MS-MS capability than MALDI-TOF post-source decay (PSD)

O

Robotic control of MALDI targets with CCTV point-and-click visual alignment checking for confidence in operation

O

Windows control software interfaces seamlessly with existing control and acquisition software provided by instrument manufacturer to make operation simple.

O

Versions available for Thermo-Finnigan Classic, Duo, Deca, Deca XP Deca XP Advantage and LTQ linear trap LTQ-FTMS and Orbitrap; Bruker ion-traps and FTMS, Waters/Micromass Q-TOF and LCT, ABI QTraps, Shimadzu QIT and the Varian 500 LC-MS ion trap.

New Nd-YAG Laser

The third-generation versions of the AP-MALDI source are fitted with the new all solid-state Nd-YAG laser. This has several advantages over the nitrogen laser versions.

Features

O

Integrated pulsed-dynamic-focussing (PDF) for maximum sensitivity

O

All solid-state Nd-YAG laser guaranteed for 1 billion firings for increased reliability and low cost-of-ownership

O

Up to 200 Hz repetition rate for higher throughput and faster imaging

O

Software-controlled attenuation for more reproducible analyses

New Software and Sample Capabilities

The latest version of the Target software includes many enhancements.

Features

O

New raster pattern motion with precise control of stage speed for MALDI imaging

O

Automated recognition of target spot centres to complement automatic sample-spotting devices

O

New sample plate holders including dense 384-spot plates, ABI Opti-TOF 192-spot plates and Waters DIOS plates
